Metalfier - Heavy Metal Life
release date: July 17th, 2018
I can not stress enough how accurate the title of Metalfiers third album, Heavy Metal Life, is, nor the bands name itself. Metalfier… the name itself conjures up images of flaming guitars and drums born out of the ashes of Soddam and Gamorrah. MORE….

Live show and debut disc review
LIVE at STELLA BLUES New Haven, CT. - June 17th 2018 - Words and Pix by John E.
Nashville, Tennessee is a giant solid pillar of the American music industry and as such it’s attracted some of the world’s best players. It’s renowned for some of the best producers and studios in the world. Being pretty good doesn’t get you paid in music city. The guys in Hogan’s Goat went to Nashville looking for a break into the music business and found each other and you can hear the balls that that took and the talent that came out of it on their debut disc. Sunday is always fun day when GEMS entertainment hosts a show and last Sunday’s Father’s Day BBQ at The Cove Nightclub in Geneva on the Lake Ohio was no exception. Geneva on the Lake is a well-known Lake Erie Ohio summer resort area about an hour east of Cleveland. It’s known for its beautiful shoreline and lovely state park and the “strip”. A boardwalk style street filled with fun shops, eateries, arcades and bars. The Cove nightclub is a legendary nightclub/rock venue that has been part of the strip for over 65 years. They have hosted many national acts over the years but for this Father’s Day event we were treated to the “Already Famous 2018 Tour “featuring live music from hard rock, punk and metal bands.
One act stood out amongst the many different genres and variety of sounds of the evening and that was the surprise appearance of American Grim. In the midst of their “Beauty and the Beast” tour with Hail Saigon, the band had a day off and at the last minute jumped on to this show in Geneva on the Lake.
American Grim band is a three-piece national touring band from Hillsborough, NJ with a metal sound and a punk edge that blows you away from the beginning to end of the set. The band consist of two brothers and their best friend who have been playing together since they were in a high school garage band. The lead singer, Ryan fills the stage with an energy matched only by his best friend and guitarist. This band really brings a great show with lots of interaction with the crowd and they fill even the biggest of rooms with a sound much bigger than that of a three piece.
Currently America Grim is winding up their Beauty and the Beast tour. They had an amazing tour spending all of June on the road with Hail Saigon. A highlight was performing at Metal on the Mountain with Mushroomhead. They will now head back to NJ to work on their next album scheduled to release later this year. Their current CD, Freakshow is available for download on iTunes and I highly recommend a listen. This is a young and rising band worth keeping an eye on. You can follow them on here.
CITY OF THE WEAK NEWEST RELEASE
KICKS ASS FROM START TO FINISH
Stef with an F on vocals, Brent Lindblad on
guitars and Cody Hoffman on Bass, the metal/ alternative band called City of
the Weak is about to unleash their full length effort “Pulling Teeth”. With a release date just two days away, June 22,
I’m recommending this full length album with both sets of horns in the air. Their
sound is quite different from what’s currently on the market….and that’s a good
thing. Their sound has elements of some of my favorites but Stef’s vocals stand
out amongst the all too few female led bands. City of the Weak can definitely
consider themselves a power trio as Stef, Brent and Eric are at the top of
their game. If I had to compare them with anyone it would have to be Pop Evil….not
that they have the same sound, but that they have the same range….melodic to
down right nasty Their sound has a wide range of appeal.
Although I genuinely enjoyed the whole album, if push came to shove, I’d say my favorite was “Censor This”. I found the subject matter, rhythms and the tightness of the three artists performances to be like a bag of good chips….I went back to listen over and over.
The album starts with a hearty kick in the chest with the song “Like I Do” and doesn’t let up through the title track. The term “Kick Ass Band” certainly fits City of the Weak and after listening to this album for the past two weeks, I can’t wait to see them live.
The production (Craig Owens) and mixing/engineering(Jordan Disorbo) is flawless and all the tracks are originals written by City of the Weak(with help on “Drag Us Under” by Daniel Wonacott)
My recommendation? Get this album as soon as
possible and get out and see them live. I do believe that City of the Weak is a
force to be reckoned with and they have the talent to be around for a long
1. Like I Do
2. Trust nobody
3. Glad You could make It
4. Not This Time
5. Censor This
7. Drag Us Under
8. Drop The Anchor
9. Suffer Like Me
10. Pulling Teeth.
